Sisters’ Urban Growth Boundary: What Buyers Should Understand

Sisters’ growth planning deserves a closer look than a headline announcing more homes.
The city’s urban growth boundary amendment involves review by the City of Sisters and Deschutes County, followed by state acknowledgement. Choosing an expansion area is one step in that process.
The county’s application summary describes a proposed expansion east of the existing boundary, north of Highway 126 and south of Sisters Eagle Airport. It addresses land for housing, employment, parks, open space, and other urban uses.
For buyers, the important distinction is between planning for growth and having homes ready to purchase. The county identifies future annexation and city zoning as separate steps. A boundary proposal does not establish when a particular neighborhood will be built or what its homes will cost.
Check the current maps, application documents, and decisions on the Deschutes County project page before relying on a development claim.
