Living in Redmond: Weigh the House, the Commute and the Everyday Trade-offs

If you're comparing Redmond with Bend, it's tempting to start and finish with the price of the house. I would go a step further. What will that house ask of you during a normal week?
Redmond deserves consideration on its own terms. The high-desert setting, downtown and access to the region can be a good fit. The decision gets clearer when you separate what you like about the place from what you would need to leave town to do.
Put your work route on the same page as your budget
If you work in Bend, drive from the Redmond neighborhood you're considering at the time you would actually leave. Repeat the return trip. Don't make a purchase around a fixed travel-time promise.
Think about fuel, vehicle use and time, alongside the monthly housing payment. That doesn't mean a commute rules Redmond out. It means the trade-off deserves to be visible before you commit.
Compare airport convenience with your actual travel
Redmond Municipal Airport is a practical part of this conversation if you fly regularly. Use the airport's current information to check flights, parking and travel arrangements rather than relying on routes mentioned in an older video.
Test the trip from the specific home. Also visit the neighborhood and listen to the surroundings. Being convenient to a facility and liking the setting next to it are different questions.
Make a real shopping and services list
In my Redmond coverage, one of the trade-offs I discuss is the selection of shopping and activities. Instead of assuming the town has either everything or nothing, write down the places you actually use.
Check where your grocery trips, appointments, hobbies and occasional specialty purchases would happen. A trip you make once every few months should carry a different weight from something you do several times a week.
Spend time in Redmond before comparing it with somewhere else
Walk downtown and explore the recreation options introduced in our Redmond area overview. Give yourself enough time to notice whether you would enjoy those places as part of your routine.
The wider region has plenty to explore, too. But a scenic weekend destination isn't the same as a place you can conveniently use after work. Map the actual access instead of treating everything in Central Oregon as equally close.
Use today's homes to answer the affordability question
Don't reuse the housing prices in a 2024 video as today's budget. Compare current options with similar condition, size, lot and features. Include likely work and ongoing ownership expenses, not just the asking price.
The right Redmond purchase should work as both a home and a location. Our team can help you compare specific choices and decide whether the trade-offs fit what you're moving here to do.
